A excessively rare type of Bellarmine pottery jug with inscription, also known as beardman jug or bartmann jug. Jug decorated with 6 medallions seperated by palmettes. A thin band with writing decorates the belly of the jug, the neck decorated with a detailed face of a bearded man. Intact with no restoration or repairs, dating to circa 16th-17th century AD, Holland. Measures 203mm height. A one of jug, very few in circulation with writing. Ex-Bonhams London. |
