Ancient Pre-Columbian Ecuadorian rare pottery figure
A very rare, strange ancient Ecuadorian pottery votive figure in the form of a deformed human. Found in Tena, Ecuador and returned to the United States in 1969. This figure, fashioned from tan clay shows individual with facial deformities, as well as one arm as a stump and no legs. The ancient cultures revered the less than perfect of their society and often assigned them to the status as shaman. This figure is similar to the large human burial urns produced in Mesquito, Colubia, but was found in the Amazon basin 500 miles south. A very rare piece, head and arm re-attatched.

Dating to circa 500 AD.

Measures 155 mm height.

Ex-Russel collection, Arizona USA.
