A superb Indus Valley clay figure of a mother goddess wearing an elaborately arranged headdress and broad collar necklace. The facial features clearly defined with beak shaped nose and button shaped eyes, the genital and breasts clearly defined and an incised line separating the legs. Portrayed with wide hips and arms outstretched. Typical for Shunga period clay figures. Overall a beautiful piece. Dating to the Shunga period circa 3rd-1st century BC Pakistan. Measures 17cm height / 22cm height inc custom stand. Two of the flowers on the headdress have been re-attached, otherwise intact. No new clay added. Ex-private West Australian collection.
