Ancient Indus Valley Shunga clay mother goddess figure
A superb Indus Valley clay figure of a mother goddess wearing an elaborately arranged headdress and broad collar necklace. The facial features defined with beak shaped nose and button shaped eyes, the genitalia and breasts are also clearly defined and an incised line separates the legs. Portrayed with arms outstretched. Typical for Shunga period clay figures. Overall a beautiful piece.

Dating to the Shunga period circa 3rd-1st century BC Pakistan.

Measures 15cm height / 20cm height inc custom stand.

Missing an ornament from below left headdress flower, otherwise intact. No new clay added.

Ex-private West Australian collection.
